Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has once again proven its leadership in the logistics sector by being recognized as an Achiever State in the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2024 rankings. This marks the third consecutive year (2022, 2023, and 2024) that the state has earned this prestigious recognition for its outstanding performance in ease of logistics infrastructure development.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, conferred the State Achiever Award to Uttar Pradesh, which was received by Abhishek Prakash, Secretary, Industrial Development and CEO of Invest UP. The award was presented at the Release of LEADS (Logistics Ease Across Different States) Report 2024 and Award Ceremony for LEAPS (Logistics Excellence, Advancements & Performance Shield) 2024, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
The LEADS initiative, launched by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry in 2018, serves as a benchmarking tool to evaluate the logistics performance of Indian states and Union territories. The rankings assess three key dimensions: infrastructure, services, and the operating and regulatory environment, through both perception-based and objective indicators. Uttar Pradesh’s continued success in these rankings demonstrates the state’s consistent efforts in improving its logistics sector.
CEO of Invest UP, Abhishek Prakash highlighted that under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath Uttar Pradesh has focused significantly on logistics infrastructure development as a crucial component of its endeavour to become a 1 trillion-dollar economy. He also emphasized the State Warehousing & Logistics Policy 2022 is an important instrument in this direction. The City Logistics Masterplan and City Masterplan have been developed in the state to effectively implement the Uttar Pradesh Warehousing and Logistics Policy 2022 aligning with the broader objectives of the PM Gati Shakti National Masterplan. The policy aims to create efficient, well-connected logistics networks that reduce transportation costs, improve last-mile delivery, and support economic growth.
Through this plan, Uttar Pradesh government aims to transform Uttar Pradesh from a “landlocked to a land-linked” state through an integrated approach to logistics. The plan outlines key objectives, including the creation of a comprehensive policy framework, development of transportation infrastructure, promotion of warehousing, and the establishment of a robust logistics ecosystem.
Uttar Pradesh’s Logistics Policy 2022 aims to boost the state’s warehousing and logistics sector by offering incentives like capital subsidies, land-use concessions, and electricity duty exemptions. The policy promotes private investment and PPP models for developing logistics parks, rural godowns, and cold chains, particularly in high-consumption hubs like Lucknow. The state’s logistics hubs will be connected through roads, rail, and airways for seamless supply chains, and the Nivesh Mitra portal facilitates easy clearances and approvals for logistics projects. High-potential zones near expressways, freight corridors, and upcoming airports are also identified for development. The UP government remains committed to further strengthening its logistics sector and enhancing ease of doing business in the state, contributing significantly to India’s economic growth and competitiveness.
